Hey there,

Does this happen to you: you're working on something, and you feel the need to drink water or go to the bathroom. Instead of getting up, you negotiate: “In just a minute. Let me finish this first...”

Same thing happens when watching a movie or while having a conversation.

Have you noticed how often we push through these little asks?

Most people never pay attention to it, they just keep talking themselves out of things, one small ask at a time.

And before long, it stops being small things. It spreads, until pushing through has quietly become normal.

The Hardest Part of Aging Isn’t Getting Older.
It’s Feeling Less Like Yourself.

It’s having less energy for the things you actually want to do.
It’s noticing that the workout that used to energize you now takes longer to recover from.

As we age, our bodies naturally produce less NAD+, a molecule involved in cellular energy production.

Shed offers personalized NAD+ treatment plans designed to support energy, focus, and recovery, with guidance from a licensed provider who can help determine what’s right for you.

How We Learn to Ignore Ourselves

It's never just water or the bathroom. Once you start noticing, it shows up everywhere:

  • You feel hungry, but you finish the task first.

  • Your eyes are tired from the screen, but you keep scrolling anyway.

  • You need to stretch, but you'll do it after this next thing.

  • You want to say something in a conversation, but you let it pass.

None of these feel like a decision when they happen; you're not choosing to ignore your body, you're just finishing this one thing first, every time.

Your body doesn't have a special way of asking for the big things. Thirst gets asked the same way as something you've been avoiding for months, or a conversation you keep putting off, same channel, same "not now."

So if you've gotten used to overriding the small asks, you've probably gotten just as used to overriding the big ones.

You just don't notice, because by then it doesn't feel like avoiding. It feels like normal life.

Answering the small one today, right away, is practice for hearing the rest.

Yoga In Everyday Life

Think of one thing you've been meaning to deal with for a while. A conversation you keep putting off.

An appointment you haven't booked. A friendship that's gone quiet because you keep meaning to reach out.

Now think back: it probably didn't start as a big deal you were avoiding.

It started as a "not now." Then another one, then it got heavy enough that avoiding it started to feel normal, and you stopped noticing you were doing it at all.

That's the same pattern as the water you didn't drink an hour ago. Just louder.

You don't have to deal with the big thing today. But it might help to just name it. Whatever came to mind when you read the first line of this section, that's probably the answer.

Closing Reflection

You don’t need to overhaul your day. Just notice the next "in a minute," and skip it. Do the thing instead.

Small asks, answered right away. That's today's whole practice.

With care,
